Preponderance of Evidence

This term is used when an abundance of verification for something is obtained from a variety of sources all leading to the same conclusion. It defines in that case the history or truth as it is known. We now have more than a preponderance of evidence, at least for an educated person in their right mind that is not under a cult type influence that seeks to defy all alternative documentation except the word of the cult leader.

We are today posting another letter that the Elders of Banten and Cimande asked us to post. Signed by them they together represent the most learned on this subject that are left alive today. Once again they affirm the one and only originator of Sera is Embah Kahir. While Cimande has three original branches, Sera has only one original version of which some local variants sprung from, but none the less all of them have their roots in the original version from Embah Kahir.

Now look closely at the list that has been provided to me of the current top Sera practitioners alive. You will note if you cross reference them with the students of Mas Jud that they are the same group. When I asked if that was really so, "Are the top Sera Players from the Mas Jud style?" I was told, "Yes, they are one in the same."

The style of Mas Jud as explained was a combination of the original Sera, Cimande and it also appears Cikolong. Mas Jud taught his art as Cimande but it had a strong Sera influence.

The Sera influence took on a life of its own and it became known as Sera Depok and then and now Sera Banten. This later version contains thirteen jurus that I also have been shown. I have taken it upon myself to study the various forms and derivations of Sera so that I can know the differences, strengths and weaknesses so that I can act as a source of accurate information for those who want the facts and not some guy’s fairy tale.

One of the other martial arts camps are saying, "Yes but this CAN'T be the same Jud" (or Djoet understand that is the same name spelled the old Dutch way and the other the Indonesian way) and they give their time of death of their Jud around 1930. Again the preponderance of evidence is against them by far. We have shown that the leaders and record keepers who actually do keep very good records in the Muslim world of such things (sometimes going back 32 generations) identified this Mas Jud as the one and only in the Sera - Cimande lineage. His students are still alive. One of the Mas Jud students remembers Guru Willy wetzel when he was training. There was never a doubt that the Wetzel "Jud" was the De Thouars "Jud".

We have shown his grave site and we have video footage of his living students. One of the Mas Jud students while watching a video of me said, "That is the movement of Mas Jud."

I also have letter from a man concerning Willem Reeders. In this letter he goes on to say that Jerry Bradigan was a live in student of Mr. Reeders and maintained close contact with him up until his death in the early 90's. Jerry recalled a story Mr. Reeders shared with them about going to a scheduled fight between two Silat practioners at Mas Juds Camp.

Mr. Reeders was one of the fighters and the fight was overseen by Mas Jud himself!

Again we see more evidence that the Reeders "Jud" was the same as the Wetzel "Jud" and the De Thouars "Jud".

Now the latest piece of evidence is very interesting. You see it is Victor De Thouars of course who along with a continuous change of his teachers and lines probably has forgotten that their own camp recognized Mas Jud did not die in 1930 as current story goes. We will be adding soon a video clip sent to us by one of his old students. This demonstration took place in the 1980's and at the end during the telling of the old Badui story Victor’s very own wife (now the ex) Julie can be seen and heard on this tape standing right beside their group which included Victor and Paul and saying, "We believe Mas Jud could still be alive."

Now that is a preponderance of evidence!

If they did not believe it why did they say it themselves?

So what is the point of all of this and what am I trying to do?

Well here is what I'm NOT trying to do.

There are many students who have studied the art renamed "Serak" by the De Thouars in this country. Many of them are very skilled players and I have no argument with them on that ground.

As a matter of fact because of the true lineage of our arts and its rightful founder we are brother arts and should act as such towards one another. All of you are welcome at our schools and seminars and will be treated with respect and honor. Wouldn't it be fun to share the various aspects of Sera?

There are "Serak" Gurus that I know of that have never participated in random name calling and are educated fine people as well. Do not let the distortion of events keep us from becoming brothers and friends in the arts that we love. Pencak Silat is about more than who can beat up whom, it is about life, healing and love. Maybe even one day our enemies, who call us names and disrespect our elders, can become our friends, at least I would like to think so.

However, I object to the mythology and control attempted by Victor De Thouars on every aspect of Silat in this country. He either tries to establish credit through his family's Silat for them or if that fails he often attempts to discredit what he no longer can control despite the skill of the individual or even if in the past he praised them. Personal issues aside, if you said someone was good before, you can't just say they are no good at their art if something else occurs between you.

We have a posted letter on this site asking questions that he has not responded to?

I believe from what I have found I can give an accurate name and description to a portion of their art as Sera Depok or Sera Banten of Mas Jud.

This stands the test of investigation. This is not a slap or a bad thing it is just what the preponderance of evidence by third parties prove.

The story of Pak Sera and the Badui Master does not. When I identified this original Sera as a Monyet based system he turned it around saying, "Sanders calls it Monkey dirt throwing." Yes the original weapon was dirt. So what it was effective and the monyet is a beautiful complete art. I was giving the facts historically but to prevent people from giving it an open ear. He disguised it with slander and made it seem I had been the one doing it. If I would have found it came from the snake, perhaps he would have said that I meant it was a belly crawling art, you see what I mean.

I posted a very beautiful juru being done on the site of a Sera player doing the original version.

Did that look bad?

Did that seem like I was making fun of it, use your head.

Then of course he says, in another attempt to make me look foolish, how could I teach it when I have been saying it does not exist?

Understand this, I still say that the "Art of Serak, invented by a Badui passed on by a handicapped famous Pak Sera (that no one outside of their family ever heard of, that has no grave site or one shred of evidence to prove his existence except the supposed verification from dead relatives), that art with that Mythology has never existed in Indonesia."

The art of Sera invented as a stepping stone to Cimande by Embah Kahir absolutely existed because there is a preponderance of evidence that it did.

I do this only to set the record straight for "Adat and Hormat" to the real originator Embah Kahir and as the founder of my art of Cimande. I owe that to him.

I am not against the players or the students who have studied and just believed the story they were told. Many of you do good Silat.

All of you are welcome at my seminars.

This is not a challenge, but an offer to actually come and see what we do before you go off name calling and acting like spoiled children.

I have been in your camp and have seen what you do. Most of you have never been to any of my seminars or have seen me twenty years ago. Most of you have only believed second hand twisted stories that bear little resemblance to the truth. Those who have come now have left almost in shock, because they saw good Silat and were treated with respect and honor. They keep coming back now.

Many were old rivals on the internet, only hearing one side, but were willing to speak and watch. No one can keep everyone happy. We lose a few students but occasionally a bad seed is found and when it goes it is like the story of the "Fox and the Sour Grapes" it changes its tales. The hero becomes the "zero". We ignore such insignificant people and hope they find happiness someday. Unfortunately they often end up with their own kind each feeding off of the bad energy of the other. That is to be expected and I have pity on such a person, who of course always paints on the happy face to hide the misery.

All in all we are growing at a fantastic rate all over the world. Why? Is it just because we talk loud or throw people out all the time or just happen to know some famous martial artists and we use their name, no. It is because those who come return again and again and again.

Why was I given a monthly column in Combat the world's largest Martial Art magazine? I place no adds in their magazine and I don't know any famous people who got me the column, simply put they saw me and liked what they saw and then what I wrote.

So I am not against you if you practice "Serak".

I can't say that any clearer, but I am against false stories, bullies and cult leaders etc.

If you are out there and you practice "Serak" and I can help you identify which branch of Sera an Indonesian who saw you perform would label you I would be glad to share what I know.

There is even another branch of Sera - Cikolong that developed along the way which I also have information on and their jurus.

So I ask you all to act intelligent and examine the facts.

Go to Indonesia and ask the questions and see what you are told.

Don't make fun or banter on about what you have never seen or experienced in person.

Thank you,

Pendekar Sanders
