The Trojan Horse is Gone

by Pendekar Sanders, April 18, 2006

We have been receiving a lot of great response to the new written curriculum of the art.

Some however have rightly asked, "Where are the old Standing 18 Jurus?”

In order to answer why they are no longer there a short history lesson is vital. Many years ago in the early 1980's I was on a quest to fill in some missing pieces in my art. Remember I had been a student of Guru John Malter since 1972 learning the complete Art of Poekoelan Tjimindie from, him that he learned from Master Willy Wetzel. I was also learning then from Pendekar Eddie Jafri sent here by the Indonesian Government to represent Silat to the USA. One thing Pendekar Jafri filled me in on was that my art should contain Jurus and I was on a quest to find the correct ones.

The Mas Jud roots were clear but for some reason Master Willie had not shown a system of Jurus to the students in a traditional way, applying more the combat principles. Now remember I was given a Title of Red Dragon (equivalent to 7th Degree Black Belt) way back then from Guru Malter and was the highest rank he could promote me to. I was no beginner in Silat.

Now along came "the word" that a certain group had the real Cimande Jurus of Mas Jud. Of course I wanted to track this down right away. Here is where the Big Trojan horse was wheeled into my school. I was "told" yes we have them, we have been using them to compliment another system we have created but the Jurus themselves are the Cimande Jurus from Mas Jud (who they also told me was really the same guy as Embah Kahir, Yikes!).

I then went to see this person and after that I had them fly out to give a seminar at my already well established Silat School with the promise of the returned Jurus coming back to us. So I learned them. He said in my school in front of a lot of students, "NOW, you have your Cimande Jurus back."

I proudly took them to Indonesia but when Pendekar Sirait saw them and Pendekar Jafri saw them, well they said if you will use these at least change them in certain ways. So I made those adaptations and added our movement making them in everyone’s opinion, in our system, who saw the before and after versions, much better.

Here is the rub, once I wound up being the victim of these guys who brought the Trojan Horse in (using it to gain me and my students and LOTS of money in their web), once I left them in disgust financially and personally devastated, out they came and spread it all over the internet using their robotic student drones that, I “stole" their Jurus, they have video of my doing them etc. They acted like I wanted to learn this other system they made up and then tricked them some how!

In short it was just another one of their lies and when we parted ways they tried to make everyone think I learned this stepping stone art of theirs, ripped off their Jurus and claimed them as mine, without telling what really happened was they did not deliver what they had promised.

How absurd. Remember when I went to them, they told me they already took these Jurus from Cimande, so they said THEY stole them to use (they used the word borrow when it came to what they said they did), and so they would show them to me returning them to Cimande, what a twisted story! How mad it made me to read the internet sites about how I was a rip off stealing this poor guy’s Jurus! It was how they operated.

But that was then and this is now and considering the reputation of the Trojan Horse peddler most now see what he was about. A few years ago when I finally found the real Jurus of Mas Jud I studied them carefully and found at once they contained the essence of the art I learned from Guru Malter, as well as many of the things in the Traditional Embah Kahir Cimande I learned from Pendekar Mama and my other Cimande teachers.

I took the old standing Trojan Horse Jurus as far as they could be taken with the additions suggested in Java and my own tweaking with our movement. But now that I have the Mas Jud Jurus I can’t see the need for them any longer.

For those who have practiced them our way and like them of course it is something you have now. Done in our manner they can be very effective. But we now must return closer to our roots with out the baggage of the Trojan Horse and the lie peddler who pushed it into my school many years ago for his own advantage over me, my life and my money.
