Cimande Elders Response

What follows is the response from the elders (2003) of Tarik Kolot Cimande Village for their input.

On Ace Sutisna

Directly from Pendekar Mama Sukarma of Tarik Kolot, Cimande Village:

"Ace lives in Tarik Kolot but never attended any of the physical exercises or any of the friendly Pencak Silat duels. He never appeared in any competitions whatsoever. Ace is not a Pendekar nor the head of the Keluarga Besar Cimande. He is the head of something he named Seni Budaya Sunda and the status of this is unknown since it has no activity. He was not even officially invited to attend the recent Pencak Silat event in Tarik Kolot in which the Mayor presided and all of the prominent players were invited. He once had some differences with Mas Didi (the student in the video doing Sera) and Darma (his assistant) but now is no longer associated with them or their school. Ace's father was from Tasik, Ciamis. His mother is a local native of Tarik Kolot and she is a descendant of Embah Ace the student of Embah Kahir, not Kahir himself."

The post says that Pencak Silat Cimande has no Ilmu?

According to Pendekar Mama Sukarma:

"Embah Kahir gave no Ilmu to Embah Ace (the ancestor of Ace Sutrisna) but he did pass it to Embah Muharrin, the ancestor of Pendekar Mama. It can be seen from this statement, that it is based on the fact he personally did not acquire any Ilmu whatsoever from his forefathers. Cimande Pencak Silat does have a powerful magickal side taught by Embah Kahir since if this were not true I would be have been dead a long ago as all of the battles and riots I have been in the Ilmu saved me many times."

On the origins of Cimande

According to Pendekar Mama Sukarma:

"Ace states that the origin of Cimande comes from someone referred to as Embah Buyut and that Kahir and Rangga were the first students. Rangga existed several generations before Kahir, however, there may be something to his statement that may be true in regards to the origin of the Pencak Silat Cimande. Embah Kahir had no children in Tarik Kolot but he seems to have had a son in Tana Sareal called "Kahir" only. The real originator of Cimande is called the 'the father of Kahir' or 'Father Kahir' - Embah Kahir. The two are often identified as a single person in the minds of many. The young 'Kahir' was the one without a belly button and was a big troublemaker. As to the lineage of Embah Ace, there are other descendants with stronger claims to it than the one expressed by Ace Sutrisna. The latter is not even a Pencak Guru and hardely anyone has studied with him."

According to Pendekar Mama Sukarma:

"There is a curse uttered by Embah Kahir, that the oral tradition regarding the origins of Pencak Silat Cimande and his arts (Sera and Pamacan) should not be misrepresented, otherwise mishaps would follow the person. I would never decieve anyone in regards to the oral traditions. This is one reason why the Pendekars in Tarik Kolot are reticent regarding Embah Kahir and are forming a signed document also joined by the Sera Players in Banten proclaiming again the origins of Sera."

According to Pendekar Mama Sukarma:

"Very few 'forigners' are SPIRITUALY led to the Pencak Silat lineage of Embah Muharrin. Lastly the Village Chief of Tarik Kolot also does not recognize Ace Sutrisna as an eminant member of the Cimande Community."

Comments:

"The inclusion of the letter 'K' in Sera is NEVER used in Indonesia."
